Kitchener, ON – The Canadore Panthers (1-11) faced a challenging weekend on the road, suffering back-to-back losses against Conestoga (74-69) and Fanshawe (91-67) in their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) basketball matchups.
Panthers Fall to Conestoga, 74-69
On January 11, 2025, the Panthers battled Conestoga at Conestoga College in a game that showcased some bright moments but ultimately ended in a 74-69 defeat. Despite a strong individual performance from guard Ty Huxtable, who posted 31 points, six rebounds, and two assists, the Panthers struggled with shooting efficiency, finishing the game with just 33.3% from the field.
The Panthers had a solid second-quarter surge, where they outscored Conestoga 23-25, but poor shooting in the first, third, and fourth quarters (26.3%, 25%, and 27.8%, respectively) left them with too much ground to make up. Despite Ty Huxtable's efforts, including a 9-for-11 performance from the free-throw line, and a double-digit rebounding performance by Bishop Whitemell (10 rebounds), the Panthers fell short in the final minutes.
Fanshawe Overpowers Panthers, 91-67
On January 12, 2025, the Panthers faced a tough challenge against Fanshawe at Fanshawe College. Despite another solid performance from Huxtable, who contributed 22 points and six rebounds, the Panthers couldn't keep up with a strong offensive showing from Fanshawe. Fanshawe shot an impressive 42.3% from the field, led by Da'Marion Ennis' 21 points and 17 rebounds.
The Panthers struggled in the first and fourth quarters, shooting only 19% and 20%, respectively. A bright spot for the Panthers came from Thomas Gowland, who finished with 14 points, and Logan Parker, who contributed 10 points. However, Fanshawe's ability to stretch the lead in the third and fourth quarters, powered by a 30-point third quarter and a 26-point fourth quarter, proved too much for the visitors.
The Panthers will look to regroup after these tough losses, focusing on improving their shooting efficiency and team defense as they continue their season. Despite the setbacks, the team's resilience and individual performances, such as Huxtable's leadership, continue to show promise.
Canadore will return home for their next matchup, hoping to turn things around and build momentum as they push forward in their OCAA schedule.
