Hamilton, ON – The Canadore Panthers basketball team faced two tough road challenges this weekend, falling to Mohawk College 99-82 on November 16, 2024, and to Niagara College 91-67 on November 17, 2024. Despite the losses, the Panthers showcased notable performances from key players and continued to demonstrate resilience throughout both games.
Against Mohawk, the Panthers were led by senior guard Logan Whitmell, who contributed 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Ty Huxtable also made a significant impact with 21 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals, while Corey Boochoon added 13 points and 2 assists. Despite shooting 50% from the field and a strong offensive showing, the Panthers couldn't overcome Mohawk's 99-point output, as they struggled to contain the home team's offensive runs.
The following day, Canadore traveled to Niagara, where they faced another difficult challenge. Corey Boochoon once again led the charge, sinking 9 three-pointers and finishing with a game-high 28 points. However, the Panthers shot just 33.3% from the field and 41.2% from beyond the arc, which put them behind the 8-ball throughout the game. Despite solid efforts from Huxtable (9 points, 5 rebounds), Thomas Gowland (4 points, 9 rebounds), and Whitmell (12 points, 7 rebounds), Niagara's balanced attack was too much to overcome.
The weekend's results leave Canadore with an 0-8 record in the season, but the team remains focused on improving their play and finding their rhythm as the season progresses.
Notable Performances:
- Logan Whitmell (Nov 16 vs Mohawk): 24 points, 7 rebounds
- Ty Huxtable (Nov 16 vs Mohawk): 21 points, 3 assists, 4 steals
- Corey Boochoon (Nov 17 vs Niagara): 28 points, 9-17 from 3PT
- Thomas Gowland (Nov 17 vs Niagara): 4 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists
The Panthers will regroup and look ahead to their next matchups, aiming to break into the win column and continue to develop the skills that will drive their success for the remainder of the season.
