NORTH BAY, ON — The Canadore College women's volleyball team faced a challenging match against Algonquin College on Saturday, October 19, ultimately falling 3-0 in a hard-fought battle at home. Despite a spirited effort, the team struggled with consistency in their attacks, leading to set scores of 25-21, 27-25, and 25-16.
The first set saw a strong start from Canadore, led by standout performances from outside hitter Calandra Bychyk and Emily Peltier. Bychyk recorded 5 kills, while Peltier showcased her skills with an impressive .368 hitting percentage, contributing 8 kills throughout the match.
In a closely contested second set, the team rallied to keep the score tight, but ultimately fell short in a nail-biting finish. Setter Reece Sommerfeld played a pivotal role, providing 14 assists and maintaining a steady flow in the offense.
Defensively, libero Payton Smith was a highlight, racking up an impressive 21 digs and demonstrating her resilience on the court. The team's blocking efforts were led by middle blocker Sophie Hotte, who recorded 4 total blocks.
